What We Do.
We first started with school supply drives, but have grown to so much more. Below are a few of our main events we do every year, but they are not the only things we do.
School supply distribution

Reflejo De Amor was established to eliminate a critical obstacle for many children in Mexico: the lack of essential school supplies. While grade school is free, students must have uniforms and supplies, which many families cannot afford. As a result, numerous children are unable to attend school.
Our mission is to demonstrate God's love by alleviating this burden on families and providing children with the necessary supplies for the school year. Each child receives a notebook, pens or pencils, colored pencils or crayons, an eraser, a ruler, and whiteout, depending on their grade level. We also raise funds to provide backpacks and lunch boxes.
These events, held from June through August, are more than just supply distributions; they are community gatherings. Each event includes games, meals, and sharing the love of God. We also offer tables with donated items like clothing and toys for parents to browse. Each event welcomes between 20 to 50 children, plus adults, with an average of 15 events per year.
While we provide supplies to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, all ages are welcome to join in the games, clothing swap, and lunch. We aim to create a true community event.
Looking forward, we hope to raise enough funds to distribute grocery items such as beans, rice, and oil to the elderly in our community, ensuring they too feel loved and included.
Join us in supporting education and spreading God's love through our community events. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of families in need.
Christmas gift exchange

We launched our Christmas Celebration Event in November 2023 to bring holiday cheer to children in our community who might not otherwise receive gifts. While gift-giving is not the central focus of Christmas, we believe every child deserves a present. These events, held from November through December and sometimes extending into January, are organized similarly to our school supply events. Each gathering features games, a meal, the sharing of the Christmas story, and the distribution of small gifts to children. Popular gifts, costing around $5 each, include soccer balls, Barbie dolls, Matchbox cars, water bottles, and nail polish. We host an average of 15 events per year, with attendance ranging from 20 to 50 children, plus adults per event. While we provide gifts to children aged 0-16, the entire community is invited to participate in the festivities. Our goal is to create a welcoming and joyous environment for all. In the future, we hope to extend our gift-giving to include everyone in the community, but for now, our resources are focused on providing for the younger children.
Building projects

Reflejo De Amor collaborates with U.S. based churches and Walk the Talk Missions to construct houses for people in the community. In October 2023 RDA also helped build a daycare center at the women's shelter. This initiative was inspired by the girls at the shelter, who wanted to give back to their community by creating a safe space for children to stay while their parents are at work. Building on this successful partnership, in September 2024, RDA once again joined forces with Walk the Talk Missions to build a house for a deserving family in the community. These projects exemplify our commitment to community development and providing support where it is most needed.
Baseball

In June 2024, Egla experienced the loss of a dear friend. He loved coaching his two boys in their sports and sharing his love of God with everyone he met. To honor his memory, his community came together and generously donated baseball supplies to Reflejo De Amor. In Mexico, the cost of playing baseball is comparable to that in America, making it inaccessible for many children due to the expense of the necessary equipment. Thanks to these generous donations, children attending our events can now try out the baseball equipment and play a quick game if they wish. Our long-term goal is to learn the game thoroughly and establish a baseball team, with the hope of eventually competing against other teams in the area. This initiative not only honors our friend's memory but also provides an opportunity for children to experience the joy of baseball.
Other

At Reflejo De Amor, our mission is to support the communities we live in through meaningful acts of service. Our work ranges from practical assistance to long-term empowerment. Egla, oversees follow-up with families who have received homes through Walk the Talk build projects. She also helps facilitate ongoing relationships between the builders and the families if they wish to stay in touch. In partnership with Angie Grams, a professional hair stylist and educator, along with a local church and a women’s shelter, Egla helped to create a classroom where women can learn hairstyling skills. Empowering women to provide for themselves and their families. Additionally, Reflejo De Amor was recently contacted by a local rehabilitation center to supply pens and paper for participants to create journals, which are valuable tools in their recovery process. Our team also distributes food and Bibles to those in need in our community, and we are always looking for new ways to spread love and compassion.
